Most speakers will be staying at the Residencia de Estudiantes, street Pinar 21 (calle Pinar 21). Phone number: (+ 34) 91 563 6411. (Non-speakers are kindly asked to make their own arrangments at the Residencia de Estudiantes through the websites mentioned below).

Residencia de Estudiantes is a residential establishment for scholars and researchers with a very prominent role in Spain’s cultural history. For instance it is known as the birthplace of surrealism, since Dalí, Lorca and Buñuel met and got to know each other while staying there. It also has played a leading role in fostering the sciences in Spain. You can find directions and ways to get there on its website at:

How to get to the Residencia
The Residencia de Estudiantes has three buildings. The check-in has to be made through the middle building, called “Pabellón Central”. Although the address of the Residencia is street Pinar 21 (calle Pinar 21), at present the best entrance to the Residencia is not through street Pinar, but through street Serrano 113-123. It is precisely there where we can find the main entrance to the CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, the equivalent to the Spanish Institute of Advanced Studies), where the Residencia is located.

By taxi:

Thus if you go to the Residencia by taxi you should tell the taxi driver that in order  to get to street Pinar 21 he should first get to the CSIC through street Serrano 113-123. Taxis from the airport to the Residencia de Estudiantes cost around 25 Euro.

The best way to get there by metro:

If you travel by metro, the most convenient is to get off at “República Argentina” station. This station has several exits though; you should take the exit to street Juan de la Cierva; walk along this street up to street Serrano straight ahead. Remember you need to look for street Serrano 113-123. The map explains how to get the Residence from "República Argentina" station.

You or the taxi driver can always ask the security guards at the main entrance to the CSIC for further information to reach the Residencia de Estudiantes (Pabellón Central).

Breakfast at the Residencia: Breakfast is included at the Residencia.
